With its mild climate, the Seto Inland Sea has the characteristics of an enclosed bay. A significant difference in the sea level at high and low tide creates a strong current which, in turn, brings nutrients up from the sea bed, promoting the growth of plankton which attracts many different kinds of fish. Umami-rich Seto fish are raised with a rich supply of food in the fast current.
